The Weekly Digest

You are your own brand!

…and everything you create on social media can be an asset!

One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give to freelancers is to never underestimate your own potential. What you put out on social media is an asset, and it can generate value. Consider:

  • 🧢 Find a niche: Don’t make something everyone is already making - you’ll just get burnt out. Find a topic you love, and make content out of that! If you love talking about a topic, you’ll never run out of ideas!

  • 💥 Attention is a valuable currency: If you want to stay ahead, especially as a content creator, always ensure your content catches your audience's attention.

  • 💭 Give value, not just entertainment: We have millions of pieces of content that entertain but not enough that teach. Find something that gives value to your audiences. Pro tip: if you’re super interested in something, chances are someone will be, too!

Speaking is the most difficult part of learning a new language đŸ˜˘

Trust me, I know!

I’ve taught English in many countries, so I must speak their native language for ordinary conversations. I thought I already knew French, but the first time I visited France to teach English was difficult for me - everyone was talking in French too fast!

I realized I had no choice but to power through. I have to engage them in conversationsIt doesn’t matter if I fumble because making enough mistakes and learning to correct them on the fly is the only way to be a natural speaker.

Soon enough, everything just clicked! I stopped translating French in my head, and I realized I was finally a native speaker.

Don’t worry about making mistakes when you speak in English. Trust the process!

Make 2025 your career upgrade year!

As we look ahead to 2025, it’s a great time to reflect on our skills and identify areas for growth. Whether you’re gunning for a certain position, considering a career change, or just want to stay competitive in your field, recognizing your skill gaps is key. Here are three practical steps to help you pinpoint those areas for improvement:

  • Do a Self-Check: Take some time to honestly assess your skills. Make a list of what you’re great at and where you feel a bit shaky. Reflect on past projects—were there tasks that made you feel less confident? This self-awareness is the first step!

  • Get Feedback: Don’t be shy about asking for input from colleagues or mentors. They can offer valuable perspectives on your strengths and areas for improvement that you might not see yourself. A little constructive criticism can go a long way!

  • Stay Informed: Keep an eye on industry trends and job requirements for roles you’re interested in. This will help you spot any emerging skills that are becoming essential. Knowing what’s in demand will guide your training plans for 2025!

By taking these steps, you’ll not only gain clarity on your current skill set but also create a focused plan for development in the coming year.
